I have a 1960 style side short bed and have a question does the bed bolts go through the wood planks or are they supposed to go under. I know this is a very novice question but a wood bed is very new to me and I have finally gotten to the bed of the truck and would like to get it right. If either way works thats fine and any suggestions are welcomed. I plan on using cheap wood from the store because I plan on abusing it and hate to throw away the money. Just a little more info I am using steel bed strips with stainless bolts (easy to undew later). Thanks for any and all information Pics of the progress will be up soon.
Styleside beds have all metal floors, you must mean stepside?
I'm fairly sure they go through the wood on a stepside but maybe someone on here that knows for certain can back me up on that!
OK I see what you're doin' there.
I'm pretty sure on stepside beds they used a counter sunk bolt through the wood and it fit flush with the wood floor.
You could probably use the same type bolt the stepside uses for your application but I would measure bolt length before you order them.
you can do it either way depending on your preference.
I converted my bed to wood floor and bolted the bed to the frame from underneath without putting the bolts thru the wood. Also i only bolted the bed in 4 places, two at the front and two at the back. the bed is just for show, so the other bolts in my opinion are not needed. the front and back bolt locations are easy to get at from underneath and use bolts.
i like the look of a clean bed floor without the bed to frame bolts sticking up through the wood.
57-60 style side truck didnt have wood weather they were short or long beds they had ribbed metel and the bolt went through the brace in to the frame of the truck. ive take off my bed on my 1958 ford couple times and that how mine was.
