i have a 2000 F150 XLT Ext Cab 5.4 triton....i'm looking at getting a magnaflow exhaust ( one muffler two exits) so not "true" duals.....i'm not interested in nitros or SC....what are some things i can do to gain some hp and get a little better mileage (if possible).............the truck has 55,000 miles on it by the way if that matters
Well mostly people do tuner/programer cold air intake and exhaust some say cold air intake is a waste the stock is good enough but thats up to you tuner/programmer like an edge evolution or a chip
I put the Flowmaster dual rear exit (basically the same system as yours), Hypertech Power Programmer III, running 93 octane and the K&N Series 77 kit....
it seems to breathe better, i "can" get 17+ on the highway if i stay off the juice...but she can drop to sub 12 in the city if i get on it a lot. 98k miles.
In regards to the electric fans... aren't our fans on a temperature based clutch? So they only come on when the engine is hot enough? Obviously electric fans are still going to reduce resistance & drag on the crank shaft... but not quite as helpful as they'd be if the fan was always spinning.
Is there any actual statistical evidence showing better operation with an electric fan? I told a mechanic friend of mine that I was gonna put one on mine, and he told me it'd be a waste of time...
Well, I have seen up to 12hp on some dyno runs. The fan still turns some all of the time, plus the added weight robs a few HP. A good fan kit will run close to $500 or more for one that will actually have sufficient CFM to keep it cool. I'm not ready to spend that for 10-12hp yet. I have been pleased with my Diablosport Predator tuner though.
