hey guys. well, after checkings some stuff over, I have found that the motor in my truck has the B9AE block number and from what jon mummerts website said, the block was used in 1959-1960 cars and trucks. what heads might be on this motor. from the pics on johns website, the numbers are visible from the botom of the head. is this right??? the head has to be off to tell what heads I have???? Is there anyway, short of pulling the pan, of telling if this is a 292 or 312???? were the fords and mercs any different???are they diferent like a ford and a lincoln as far as exhaust manifolds????/

64 you sound like me, nothing but questions . The 59 block should be a solid platform. Original heads could very well be 113's. They are the best breathing head for Y's so hope you get lucky there. With some effort, Mummerts site, and a mirror you should be able to see the head ID numbers.
Pulling the pan would probably be a good idea for reasons other than ID. You can clean the oil intake screen and remove a main cap to see what the wear looks like on one of the bearings.
Again referring to Mummerts site, look at the section on block ID. There is a diagram of crank flanges (bolts up to pressure plate). If you get under the truck and remove the dust cover you can ID the crank and motor size from the markings on the crank flange. Note that you have to look closely in some cases to see those dots, because they arent very high, and sometime barely seen even with crank out of motor.
ya. i am young yet. 27 yrs old. lol. that and asking questions and doing is the only way i seem to learn so. plus, makes for good car show chattin. thanks.I have to pull the valley pan to use a mirror to see those numbers with the heads still on the motor right?????
On my mounted 113s, the number is between the valley and bottom of intake manifold. Go the the front passenger side manifold mounting bolt, then below it and a little inward. Using a flashlight and dentists type angled mirror, it was easy to see. You may have to clean away crud first.
ok now I have another question. according to john mummerts website, if the block number is above the oil filter, this block prolly is from a car. now, were there certain heads that were more specific to the car motors?????
