What would cause an intense exhaust leak suddenly? When I got my true dual put it, my exhaust guy said it was going to leak a little until the new tubes going into the manfolds expanded properly ect..Well he tightened them 2 months ago, and I hadnt heard a noise since then, but now all of a sudden, a few days ago, a very intense leak coming from the passenger manifold, is leaking pretty substantially. Its almost embarrassing because it makes a lot of clicking noises if i give it any sort of gas. But I know I can just get it retightened, but I was more so just curious to why all of a sudden? All I know is that last saturday here in Maine, there was a freak 95 degree day, so I had the AC on all day, drove about 100 miles I think with it on, and all of the cold wet condensation like always drips on the manifold. Do you think the contrast in temperatures caused the tube to expand? I know this may be silly because I drive in rain, but is it all differnt? Thanks guys
That is how the leaks occur, suddenly. It has to do with the heating cooling cycles, and the loosening of the bolts. Once the header pulls away from the head to the point that it will not re-seal when hot, it leaks.
Tube headers have a history of sealing problems. This is where quality is an advantage. I always use gaskets, and some type of bolt that will not loosen up.
There are several fasteners that will do this. I like the new ones that are a bolt in a bolt. The bolt holding the header to the head is hollow and threaded. Once you torque this fastener, you screw in another bolt that swedges the fastener in place preventing it from loosening up. jd
I dont have headers tho, I have stock manifolds, they have never been removed, and there not leaking. Its where the new true dual is entering into the manifold. Thats where its leaking, not a head/manifold leak.
