The engine revs up and the spedometer goes up just like you are accelarating but you are just coasting. It is very intermittent. sometimes happening 3 times a day to once in a couple months. Any Ideas?

Here's the instructions for adjusting the MLPS from my service manual:

Fig. 1: Adjusting the MLP sensor
NOTE: Park is the last detent when the manual control lever is full forward. Return 2 detents toward the output shaft for Neutral.
1. Position the manual control lever in Neutral.
2. Insert Gear Position Sensor Adjuster tool T93P-700 10-A or equivalent, into the slots.
3. Align all 3 slots on the MLP sensor with 3 tabs on the tool.
4. Tighten the attaching screws to 80–100 inch lbs. (9–11 Nm).
i have a 1993 F-150 and my truck does the same thing. shift out of nuetral and kick back into gear. I was wondering if that was wrong with my truck. i just replaced the rearend with an older one. there is no speed sensor in the rearend so my speedometer doesn't work. could that be a problem with mine and if so is there someway to relocate it?
I have a 94 with the e40d tranny and had the same problem for over a year. Everytime the dealers looked at it they could not duplicate the fault and no codes are recorded. They even had the tranny "expert" drive it for two weeks while I was on Holiday. I finally found a tranny man that suggested it was the "Manual Level Position Sensor" that was known to get water in it and intermittently short. This would cause the tranny to switch gears without moving the level and then back into o/d when not shorted. (mine would do it for less than a second). He said if it is "brown" in color, then it is the old type and should be replaced. He replaced mine three weeks ago (about $100) and I've been trouble free since. Touch wood.

Another vote for MLPS. I also think they're cheap enough that you should just replace it and forget trying to adjust it. There was a TSB out from Ford regarding the problem of water getting into the switch, I believe. I don't remember the # but I found it when the Bronco did this same thing.

Just an update... the fault never came back since the MLPS was changed...
I sold the truck in March of 2008 and do miss it except when it came time to put fuel in it.
