Value depends on the situation. Last Friday I picked up two Ford Toploaders for 70 Mustangs, 1 Four Speed and 1 Three Speed for $25.00.
A used as-is Three speed usually sells for $200-275 at swap meets and the Four speed $500-750 as-is.
As for the fit, depends on what bellhousing, the TopLoader is a has dual bolt patterns.

also depends on what engine transmission was from originally.
topladers used two different input shaft diameters.
1-1/16 for small blocks and small FE.
1-3/8" for 427,428 and 429 engines.
they also used different output shafts depending on application.

A small imput shaft toploader will work with a 429-460 and you will most likely have no problems unless you use sticky street radials or slicks. Mustang top loaders and popular since they are the most popular overall length. I sold a early model trans. and 8" rear last year for $ 900.00. check out David Key's web site.
