Larger diameter thermostat?
When i put a new thermostat on my 1972 3/4 ton Camper special Sport custom, 4spd (390)?, 4brl, cast manifold, the thermostat the parts people sent me was too small. I even tried several stores. They always brought me back the smaller one. I finally found one supposedly for a 391. Is this just what you get with a factory 4brl manifold? Im pretty sure its a 390, it really hauls, and will do a 3rd gear spin with a dana 60 posi with 285/75R16, and 3.5 gears. The carb has the spacer with the heater hoses. Looks like a factory job. I dont think that was an option though. What do you guys think?

Hey Tony, here’s the deal. Pickups didn’t get a 4V manifold until ’74, your manifold must be an older one that takes the larger thermostat, the later ones went to the smaller id. What are the numbers on the intake?

Yeah that's an early manifold, better check out what all you have.
