Hi,
First of all, thanks for all your help in my recent querys. Second, I wanted to ask where you got your 2800 torque converter. Do you feel like that is the right speed for a built 390 or 428? I will have 4.10's or 4.11's with a locker by the way if that makes a differance. Did you install it yourself and if so, how hard was it? I am mechanically inclined myself, plus I've got all the people in my car club to help me if I need it. Last but not least, would you mind telling me how much it cost?

I bought my converter from my transmission rebuilder who had it made locally. They are not too hard to install. I didn't install it initially but I had to reinstall it for the engine rebuild. I think it is great for my setup. It actually stalls around 3000. It was supposed to be a 2500. My 360 would only turn it 2200. It cost me $225. Your 428 might turn it 3200 or so due to the extra torque. TCI makes a better 2500 stall than I have for about $250 I think.

thanks for the tip, the street fighter sounds like the one I'm looking for. Is that the one you were talking about, or the breakaway?

Whichever one stalls 1,000 over stock or close to it. I have not looked at them for a while. I think stall converters are rated for their stall at around 300 ft/lbs of torque. You would have to start pulling plug wires on a 428 to get it down to that little torque so figure that you should get a little more. Calling TCI would be the best advice I could give. B&M makes converters too so you may take a look at them also.

cool dude thanks! Now I just have to get my truck down here. I started college a few weeks ago here in the bay area, but my truck is at home in seattle. I don't want to drive it down here because....well it needs some work before I'd take a trip like that in it. So it looks like I'm going to have it towed down. But a couple of my friends are driving down during thanksgiving break, and I'm trying to talk them into towing it down for me. But it turns out there is a student auto shop here on campus where I can work on my truck, so I gotta get it down here. But this will give me time to get a job and save some money for it right? Okay thanks again for the help
