I told him I wasn't interested and we were about to go to bed but he wanted to be pushy.
I then went and got my books and started trying to sell him life and health insurance.
I didn't let him get a word in nowhere so he just got up and left, without saying goodby.
Some years ago, mid 90's before I gave up the license, I was a licensed gun dealer.
Some idiot from my wife's family gave out our name to one of these pyramid type insurance companies - Primerica IIRC. He was pretty adamant about coming to the house so we finally gave in. After listening to his talk about buying life insurance, and then trying to get us to sign up to SELL life insurance (think Amway setup), I told him I had listened to his sales pitch and now he would listen to mine. From under the table I pulled a brand new Ruger P-89SL which is a large frame 9mm. I went on and on about the features and the whole time he is packing up his bag. He couldn't leave fast enough.
My wife's family heard about it and I have never been bothered by referals again.....
When the phone rings I'll say hello twice in rapid succession. If I don't get a quick response I know it's a computer dialing and hang up.If I get one that direct dials I politely cut them short and hang up.If they are dumb enough to call back I ask for a method of payment and a billing address.I tell them if my boss can bill my work at $85 an hour when I'm on the clock then I can bill the same when I'm off the clock. They never call back.
You guys starting to get computers calling you and telling you to call a toll free number? Those tick me off more than a telemarketer. Some computer programs are even so retarded that when my voicemail picks up, it starts talking and I only get the last 4 seconds of the message.
If they can't get the programming right, it's not worth listening to. If they have to resort to a computer to call me and tell me to call back, they aren't getting a call back.
Then, my caller id picks up numbers from Colorado, Florida, Arizona,... Who knows what they want.
Anyway...
I haven't strung a telemarketer along yet. I usually just say no thanks. But the banks selling $10,000.00 of life insurance for a "low introductory rate" just won't take no for an answer. If I had a regular, corded phone, I'd slam it down onto the cradle. But with these cordless phones, it's just not satisfying enough to press the "End" button.
When a telemarketer calls I generally answer the calls. Wife is a little more easier on them. With the computer generated please wait for an important call, I am nice enough to wait for a human. I tell them I am on the national no call list and take my our name and number off the list. I push a couple buttons and say this phone call was tracked. If I recieve another call. Our lawyer will answer all your companies questions in court! Have a nice day and hang up.
I have both cell phones and home phone on the list. I started recieving some on my cell. The best was, I was working in a slum neighborhood. A gun shot rang out before I could give them the speel. They asked what was that. I said it was the previous owner of the phone, he didn't want to give me his wedding ring. They hung up and I never got another call on my cell form them.
