I have an 1981 f250 with 38x15.5" super swampers on 16.5" rims and all I do in that truck is off road and I off road hard and I have never lost a bead on my tires so I dont know what theyre talking about loosing the bead just go with 16.5 rims theyll work

I think it is mostly the stock type or OEM type 16.5 inch rims that do not have a good safety bead. With the popularity of 17s (and larger) today, I'd say go with 17s and be done with it. 16.5 wheels might be cheaper now but the tires may begin getting more expensive and elusive as their demand goes down.

All that said, I've got 16.5 X 10 aluminum rims and BFG All Terrain T/A KOs (33 X 12) that I bought 3 years ago. If you've got to deal with snow, these are a great all around tire.
