I remember seeing some links to a website that sold the parts and also some links to articles on putting a cummins in our trucks. I did some searching but couldn't find what i am looking for. Does anyone have those links? thanks
If you are putting a cummins in, before you install it, make sure it has the cam gear dowel pin mod installed or you may end up with some very expensive repairs. This was recently covered in Diesel Power Magazine, real problem with the Cummins.
Yeah depending on which cummins motor you install. The 12 valve motors had the killer dowel pin problem. The later 24 valve models, they don't say anything about those.
Don't be fooled...
This is a very extensive project. The 'kits' merely have motor mounts, tranny adapter plate and flywheel/flexplate. EVERYTHING else is in your court.
When I say extensive, it's just time consuming, there is no rocket science involved. Be ready to do alot of wiring and custom piping.
If you're using your tranny, tell it good bye for me. It won't last long.
thanks everyone, that was what i was looking for. I was looking at putting in the 12 valve cause it is less complex then the 24. What years are the 2nd generation 12 valves? Does anyone know of a site "like" this one( i know there isn't any other site with this much info and freindlyness!) for the cummins engine? I would like to learn as much about it as i can before i start. Thanks again everyone. i am looking for a cummins right now and once i find the right engine i will park the truck and start and post lots of pics!
