I've got a 428 FE that I'm going to supercharge and make a screamer out of. If I'm lucky I hope to get 700HP MAX. More like 650. I've got the stock c6 transmition (cruse-o-matic perhaps, the owner said it was, the dataplate says it's a good ole c6, owner also said the car was comeletely stockm is there a difference?) and 9 inch 31 spline rear end, and driveshaft. Does anyone know how much the trans and rear end can take? My car (it's a 1966 Galixie 7-liter) came with the engine, I'm just making it bigger and badder. It's my daily driver that I can blow off people with, I'm not going to drag it....much...
Your stock drivetrain will not hold up. A naturally aspirated 428 will produce far less torque at 650HP than a supercharged one therefore you will need to do some $major$ drivetrain upgrades. There are many people putting that kind or torque to a 9" rear end but its not close to being stock. You will need an aftermarket third member and axles. The transmission will have to be completely gutted and have hardened shafts and gears installed. As for the 428 you will need to spend some major cash on the bottom end. If you want to spend upwards of $15,000+ on your drivetrain it could be done but there is no way you are going to get 650HP to the ground without doing some major suspension work and replacing the street slicks every oil change.
That's awesome dude, another 428 on the forum. I'm planning a little milder buildup, with something like a 275 cam, dove roller rockers, an 800 cfm carb, 2800 stall converter and 4.10's out back. That should be enough for me (and my wallet lol). Well your car sounds awesome I love those 7 liter galaxies, but I love the 7 liter F-100's better. LOL well good luck.
So, I wonder if I can get the engine the best it can be naturally asperated with a good idle on pump gas and still have the drivetrain take it? I don't know what kind of power figures I'm looking at with that set up. I baised my supercharged figures off of 450hp on 8psi boost...
