Just wondering why no one talks about rubicon express on FTE. I have found that their quality and engineering are very high. Just a curious thought more than anything else. Dr seems to be the lift of choice so I wonder how Rubicon express would stack up against them. Advertising goes to DR hands down but does everything else. http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Ford-S...=EE4EF73516803
I bought the 6.5" RE kit for my 04 for a few reasons..
1. flipped u-bolts
2. relocated steering stabilizer
3. swaybar relocation
4. Carrier bearing drop bracket is an exact drop, no spacers or washers
5. new trackbar
Both are good kits, but I think the RE kit is better suited to wheeling, which is why I chose it. For leaf sprung SD's, I think RE and DR are the top two.
I installed a Pro comp lift in my truck, Then I installed a Rubicon lift in my friends Excursion, result - wish I would have bought the Rubicon. He paid $1500 from 4wheel parts.
man, that sucks. I thought RE had some decent springs. I hope they didn't start cutting back on quality.
How many leafs in those springs?
And how tight did you get the shackles? They should be loose enough that the shackles move freely... overtightening leaf spring and shakle bolts are a common cause of an overly stiff suspension.
The 4" and 6.5" lift use the same springs, to ugrade to a 6.5 you add a small block in back, and hangers and shackles in the front. My friends Excursion rides real well, but he uses adjustable shocks. That's the only way to "tune" your leaf spring suspension to ride the way you want it to. Rancho or MX6's are the way to go if it rides to hard.
yes, i considered the RE kit as well, since i use the truck and liked how everything is tucked outta harm's way. the price looks high on paper until you realize all the stuff that comes with it. had i more money to spend i woulda went w/ it.
i have a buddy with an RE longarm kit on his jeep and the stuff seems decent; he had to replace a bushing gone bad, but other than that it's been good.
If the spring is disconected you should be able to easily deflect the shackle or spring eye easily, with little to no resistance. All the Spring and shackle bolts are self-locking, so you only really need to get through the nut all the way. I tighten it down till it's just against the shackle or hanger plus a little but not enough to deflect anything.
One way to tell if it's really tight is to look at the bushings to see if they're squished. They should be flat, not bulging out. They should always be greased before instalation as well.
The DR lift seems to ride better in my opinion. The RE shocks may play an important role in this too. I do tow with my truck and it barely sags in the rear with a heavy load. Love the way it looks and i am also running the diesel lift on a V10 motor so i'm over 4 inches of lift in the front. Also using a 3 inch block in the rear. Think its worth upgrading the shocks for a softer ride?
I've had adustable shocks on three trucks, 85 Ramcharger, 2001 dodge and my PSD, all three truck rode well, high setting for loaded, low settings for unloaded. Sure you get a little body roll in the turns, but what lifted truck doesn't do that.
TQ spec on the spring shackle (shackle to frame bolt and shackle to spring bolt) for the front is 185ft/lbs.
DR is heavier duty than the RE stuff from what I've seen. I know RE makes good jeep stuff, never used their stuff for a SD. A guy on another forum pulled his RE in favor of DR and was happy with the switch...
