I have just started noticing this. There seems to be a rattle INSIDE my driver's door, which I think I hear right about ear level. It's about to drive me into a straitjacket. Vehicle is an '00 Limited 4x2 V10.
I don't have anything in the door pockets, so it's not that. I've also banged around on the shoulder belt anchor (adjustable) and don't think it's that either.
My 03 limited has the same problem. Haven't bothered chasing it down I'm probably gonna have the dealer look at it since they raped me for over 2Gs for a 3/36 bumper to bumper. I have recently started noticing it when i play loud bass heavy music. Used to be just over big bumps in the road.
I had the same issue. When I popped off the door, I found the wiring to the speaker was loose. When I'd hit a bump, the plastic connector would hit the inside of the metal door. I taped it down with duct tape and shut it up. Its real easy to pop off the door.
No problem...I do think that last photo I posted is of the rear door actually...but the screws are in the same "general" location on the front and it has the neat arrows pointing the way!...not to confuse anyone...
The speaker is a good "suspect" as it is held in place with 4 screws...one may have loosened up or something...I'd also check your mirror nuts (under that first triangle plastic piece and rubber inserts up front)...one may be loosening up.
Last...I JUST took my truck in yesterday...as I was having this "thumping" issue at 45 and above...well I checked the mirror as I thought that was loose...well as I was checking it was the weather stripping had peeled back and was "thumping" on the roof...dealer installed new weatherstripping on BOTH drivers and passengers door under warranty (which runs out next month! argh!!!)...so my thump was actually a flapping piece of weatherstripping...
I had same problem and took it back to the dealer 4 times. They would take everything apart and state couldn't find the problem. The last time they loosened the bolts and re adjusted the door, for it grew to be kind of a glass on metal sound. Well it did not work.
Since then we have got it figured out to what it actually is. It sounds and feels like the window is actually scraping in the frame right by my ear. When I press hard on the window outwards, the sound stops.
The dealer adjusted the window 3 times as well and no luck my friend.
I will have to take out the window to see if there is wear of any kind and I am thinking to just put a thin film of rubber cement inside the window frame where the contact is. I have been dealing with this since 02.
2,000 and 3,000 mile trips and I have almost snapped.....I now just turn up the music. I have 1 month left on the 5 year 100,000 warranty, might drop this in their lap one more time at the dealership.

Sand Dad, I have this same problem and I can so relate to your frustaion on those road trips ! Please let me know if you find a fix. I will break my door panal off this weekend and let you know what I find as well. But you described my problem to the T, I too pushed against the window and it stopped the noise... / Chris
