I just added the superchip to mu 2002 diesel. Has anyone had any experience with the superchip. I was wondering about the towing ability and if it hurts my engine to run the superchip.
First off, welcome to FTE and the 7.3 Diesel forum.
IF you have it installed already, you might want to get at least a pyrometer to monitor your exhaust temps. Towing with a stock truck with a chip or tuner can produce some very high exhaust temps quite quickly.
i noticed that you can change the setting to tow, tow-perf, or performance. i am running performance now. Guess I need to take the programing off when I get ready to tow. I have a boost gauge mounted. Do I need to check in getting a different chip, one that I can change on the fly.
not hard to install. i believe in diesel power or 8lug they just did a 3 gauge install or someone on here can go through the steps. tow performance is really good (atleast on a 6.0 and travel trailer) not sure about 7.3. you'll soon probably want a dp-tuner which anyone will tell you its top notch.

Ok, you have the Superchips Supertuner. I had one when I first got my truck. Soon changed out to a DP tuner that is adjustable. Even when your running empty, the EGT's can get to 1100+ pretty quick running the Performance tune. The Pyrometer is pretty easy to install, not much harder than a boost guage.

The Superchips is a pretty good tuner but you definitely need gauges. If you read the instructions you can only run performance tune unloaded and never when towing. Tow-performance tune only when towing under 6k. I use the Tow tune when pulling my 7-8k travel trailer. Go ahead and install the gauges and you should be fine. I don't like the quick shift into OD with the Superchips though.

I ran the Superchip for about 4 years on my truck. I didn't have gauges the whole time. I didn't know about FTE at that time. I used performance when not towing, seem to get better mpg. I used tow perf when towing only my trailer. When I loaded it up I switched to tow safe. My truck was fast on perf. so I thought. A little while on here I found the light. And walked right in the middle of it. After running the DP-TUNER with the other mods I installed,,, WOW. I know you will see the light in due time. Have fun with the Superchip, but when you are ready for power get the DP-TUNER F5.
You are still better than stock with the Superchip.
I got my gauges and a pillar mount from Diesel Manor. They sell the ISSPRO line which are what a lot of Semi-trucks install factory. The pryometers are a real PITA if you have a stick like I do. Directions assumed you had the automatic transmission and directed you to route the wiring through the firewall where the clutch would go go a stick. Didn't offer any alternative for those of us with stick shifts. Also finding a place to mount the pyrometer amplifier box was fun. Drilling the thermocouple hole in the exhaust manifold is not bad if you have good quality drill bits and taps. Cast iron is tough and it takes good stull to work with it.
