I lost power steering breifly at idle today. The issue started on an off ramp and lasted about 15min in stop a go traffic. Power would resume once the rpm's increased slightly. I drove about 50 more miles ( highway and city) and it's been fine at idle since. It's hard to tell what may have caused it when it's working OK at the moment. There were no unusual noises but it seems like I've noticed a very slight vibration in the past week or so.
Anyone with a similar experience? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Check you Power steering pump resoivor. Remember it uses ATF. The pump also supplies boost to the master cylinder for the brakes. If you lost power steering you probably lost brakes also. Did the power steering fail only when you applied brakes? If so, then you are low on ATF or you may have a failing pump.
When I realized the steering was out on the coast up an off ramp I thought the truck stalled or another hyroboost line blew but the brakes were fine. No leaks anywhere. Guess I should start with the pump then. Probably weak. Thanks.
