Ok heres what the dealer said.Replace the drivers side injector harness, valve cover and IDM.I am guessing that the injector harness and the uvc harness are the same. The only code they could remember was a po1398.Also said that the vss was bad.For doing this they wanted $1700.I told them I would come get it today. They called back in about five minutes and the service manager said he had talked to the tech and he said he could make it run right by changing the harness, but the ses light might come on until the IDM was changed. This didnt seem right to me because they said the IDM had a short,I was thinking if it had a short in the IDM that it still would run rough. So I picked it up without any work done and came home .It ran fine and the light never came on.When I got home I noticed that some of the dust and dirt on the drivers side valve cover had finger and hand prints in it.
I would like to know exactly what the IDM is and does?It is a pretty pricy part at $768.78.Also am I correct in assuming that the injector harness is the one under the valve cover? If it helps the cost of it was $91.88.
well IDM is a Injector Drive Module IIRC, its in the driver side fender well, but i bet money that you have UVC is a Under Valve Cover harness, yes its injector harness,
i have mine in the basement, if you going to need it, take the VC off , its not that bad, if you handy and take your time, and see if the UVC plug id 1/2 out or not seated all way in, this might cause lots of codes, and be intermittent,
let us know how it goes
what Pete said, and the valve cover gasket is reusable, it is an oring style gasket. under the VC you will see where a large connector goes through the valve cover to out side this is one of the places that can work loose. this harness also goes to each injector and they have little retaining clips that need to make sure they are snug. The VSS is on the top of the rear differential, unplug, remove, replace, replug and your through. The IDM is located between the inner and outer fender wells on the drivers side. I bet the short they are seeing in the IDM is just the UVC harness showing an open circuit. Their was a thread last week on IDM's that ended up being a UVC harness.
I had the same problem, kinda still do. My SES light flashes and the shop told me i need a new IDM so i happen to have one. I swaped it out, 20min, and my SES light still comes on in the cold. I am gonna go over and have my ford buddy scan it tonight to see if i cant fix this pig.
WonderDonkey, you going to have to check the under valve cover gasket, lots of people get thrown of by the codes, UVC might cause the same codes, so pop your VC and check the connector,
Well I think its fixed.I'll know for sure in the days to come as I drive it.But before I got started I looked at everything attaching the intercooler tubes and clamps and they had all been loosened.None of the valve cover bolts were very tight either I am pretty sure that the ford place had been in there and already plugged it back in.I think they were trying to screw me good.I pulled the valve cover and the plug was almost plugged all the way in.
I called another ford shop that is about an hour away and the service man told me that some of the new plugs had even been coming out he suggested that I try to clean it all off and epoxy it so I did.I put epoxy under the lip that the clip pushes into to lock and on the top corners between the plug and plug in.He also told me that it is possible for the IDM to go out but not probable.
I'll give it a few days and report back on how it is going.
