I have to disagree with you here quick... Why advise him to just replace the IAC without even TRYING to clean it? Your post says it rarely helps, maybe this guy will be one of the rare cases, why try to cost this guy another $50 if you don't have to... Cmon...
When i unplug the iac the engine dies. I am running some sea foam through the vacuem system now and some in the tank with 5 gallon of fresh gas now that i have run the old gas out. I adjusted the stop screw down just so it will hold a idle for now so i can run some cleaner through the system. The funny thing is when it is idleing now sitting on the stop it will idle ok for a bit then act like it is going to fall on its face then pick the idle back up
It's probably the computer. It likes to be in control. it will fool around with things until it gets what it wants. Control! It's only happy when the engine and all the sensor obey it's commands.
Here is where I'd start. Replace the fuel filter, if the truck has been sitting for any time it's clogged up from bad gas. Then replace the TFI module on the distributor base if it still runs bad.
i wouldnt sappose there might be a ford guru that lives in my area that wouldnt mind taking a look at this truck for me. I am really not wanting to spend 1000's of dollars replacing parts doing the trial and error method. Oh and my truck is in lakewood washington
Not to be repetitive here, but have you tried replacing the EVP yet? If your pulling a code there is probably a good reason for it. I understand you dont want to throw money at your truck hoping you solve your problem, but at $28 its a small price to pay to get your truck running right.
I would take care of that EVP right away, it sounds like that is your problem.
Somehow that comment got overlooked.
I had an EVP sensor code when I first bought my truck, so I replaced the EVP and the problem went away... But the thing that makes me wonder, is that my truck was not running any differently when it was throwing the EVP sensor code. I suppose the same code could be thrown by several different malfunctions in that sensor though... Maybe yours is causing your EGR valve to stay open and allow exhaust gas into the combustion chamber when it shouldn't bet there, while mine might have been causing my EGR to close.
I'd replace that EVP before anything else OP, even if it doesn't fix the problem, it needs to be replaced anyway. And maybe you'll get lucky

Thanks Scandocious, I felt like a broken record talking to a brick wall. Lol. Yeah my truck has started running crappy one day and it acted like it wanted to stall and when you put it in drive, the idle would fall and it would lurch then the idle would pick back up. It would also hesitate alot when I punched it. I used a wire and pulled my codes in the driveway and got codes 32 and 33. I started a thread and posted the codes. Someone suggested I replace the EVP. Ta Dah! Problem solved.
ok well i bypassed the egr valve today and things were much better. Oh and i swapped 2 plug wires around that i let my buddy help me with and its all better.. And to think this truck was a few days away from being the victim of a grapple on a excaveter due to frustration. A engine runs really bad when you are sucking alot of exaust gas into the vacuem system. That explains the leak i couldnt find.
its all good man, now all i have to do is find a steering column that doesnt have a broken tilt..... I think i have the only column in town that has air ride.....
