MY FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER 99. HAS STARTED TO MAKE A SHORT VIBERATING NOISE AFTER REACHING 40-45 MPH THEN IT STOPS. IT ALSO FEFUSES TO SHIFT INTO GEAR WHEN GOING UP STEEP INCLINES. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THIS COULD BE AND HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS. THIS IS OUR FAMILY VEHICLE AND I HAVE 3 SMALL CHILDREN ALL UNDER 4.
THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE FUELPUMP AND REPLACED IT. IT IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. THEY PRETTY MUCH TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS NOW(THEY ASSURED ME IT WASN'T DANGEROUS). I'M SCARED IT'S GOING TO LOCK UP AND WERE GOING TO WRECK. I HAVE TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN IT. I HAVE NO CHOICE OUR CAR WILL NOT FIT 2 CAR SEATS AND INFANT CARRIER. PLEASE HELP!
Is your check engine light coming on? To me it almost sounds like your torque converter is not locking up/kicking down when it is supposed to or you have a shifting problem in the transmission.
Either way, it isn't dangerous unless you are trying to merge into heavy traffic.
How many miles are on it?
If a Ford shop can't figure it out, you may want to take it to a good transmission shop before winter and see if they can diagnose the problem.
Around here,( N.E. Oklahoma ) they usually charge around $1800 if they have to remove and rebuild the transmission. You may get lucky and it may just be a filter and fluid issue.
Good luck and if at all possible, for the families sake, have it checked out soon.
