Smile Oh Crap!

Bought the new Premo air filter from Donaldson made especilly for the Ford 7.3 ($189.00) and installed it. The air horn kind of dead ends into the grill so I decided to do the Zoodad mod. Only I tried doing it W/O removing the grill completely. I just removed the top screws and tilted it out to get my die grinder in there and cut out the offending plastic material. the grinder locked up on a piece of plastic and threw my hand & grinder into the A/C condenser and sliced open one of the tubes Instantly releasing all the freon into my face!
What a mess. it is hot here this time of year too, hovering close to 100° and use the A/C everyday. The radiator shop has it now and they are going to try and weld it up for me.

I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS! Feel pretty stupid too.

Wow that sucks! I would of used a holesaw to do the zoodad mod and then cleaned it up with the sawzall or the diegrinder. Live and learn I guess.

Dang, that sucks. And to think the four screws is the hard part of removing the grill. Good luck!

Like Barry said, dang that sucks. I have to admit thought, and I am sorry for it, I laughed when I read that. Sounds like something that would happen to me.

Man, while you were in there with the die grinder, it would have been a perfect time to do the Genedad mod!

If you have to drive it, make sure and disable you AC compressor so it don't try to come on. Don't want to add insult to injury.

I can't do the zoodad mod on my truck becouse the damn love-bugs are so bad this year I would plug my filter in no time. I can't believe how bad they are, if you live in an area that does not have them you are soooo lucky.

Make sure they purge the condensor with some inert gas while welding, you don't want the metal heating up and getting oxidized, would not be so good for it to flake off and float around the AC system

They plug it even with the 6637 mod, in mine the bugs just go flying by the filter hit the firewall and down under the truck. With the stock air box I think they get stuck inside and can't figure out how to get out.

05 was definatley the worst year here in AL for the little Bas***ds, but a small piece of window screen over the zoodad hole does great. just clean it out every day.

Thats sucks, and it sounds like something that would happen to me. You do know that after those 4 screws are removed you just pull the grille and it comes out?
