I replaced my compressor wheel today w/ a stock replacement. My boost went from 11-12 @ WOT to 18-19 @ WOT, all stock engine. I didn't know the vanes were that bad until I took the housing off. I've been chasing boost leaks the last couple weeks. The previous owner obviously had a bad air filter leak. I now have a an AFE stage 1 sitting in the air box. Anyway, here are the pics of the impeller I took off.
Are you sure your shaft, housing and bearings are OK? It looks like that impellar has damage from housing contact uniformly on all blades. And yes, it looks to be dusted as well. Check your shaft for play.
Shaft has a little up and down play after sitting for a while, no in & out movement at all. The housing was in perfect condition. Seems to be running great right now. It was only a $20 fix. If and when the turbo goes out, I'll probably upgrade to a turbonetics unit.
Did you notice if your egts went down any after installing the new wheel? I was having some low boost numbers as well and my impeller appears dusted and egts seemed a little high. Just wondering if it helped on that side as well. thanks. Tim
Wow that looks pretty bad. Imagine how your engine looks. It would be wise to change out the intercooler, to make sure what metal was caught there doesn't get dislodged and pushed into the engine.
