68-69 Torino's

I recently located a pair of 69 Torino's and a 68 Torino GT at a guy's house not far from where I live. He said the two 69's were R-code 428 CJ's and the 68 was a S code 390 4V. So I headed out there to see if they were all legit and to my amazement, they were! I was more amazed when I discovered one of the 69's was a Cobra. He is selling all three. All are mostly there except the motors and hoods. They still have the original trans and rears. All are C-6 autos on the column and have bench seats. Also, they are all fastbacks. What are these three worth and are they worth restoring? One is orange, one is dark grey and the other is dark green.

I think he has the original motors and hoods but I can't be sure.

Thanks!

Body damage, rust?

Interiors?

I googled "fairlane torino parts" and got

http://www.dearbornclassics.com/

so it looks like you can get some parts. I'd suggest you start adding it up...

As for value w/o engines they are scrap price.

Rating system: Low=running, could be d/d, needs work (no beaters or parts cars). Average=stock and correct appearing, could be d/d, need some cosmetics, could win a category at a local show. High=Concours or nearly so, top dollar at serious auction, national event winner.

'68: L $8500 A $15,000 H $23,5000

'69, 335hp: L $9500 A $16,000 H $27,000
360hp: L $10,500 A $18,500 H $30,500

'69 Cobra, 335hp: L$12,000 A $21,000 H $33,500
360hp: L $18,500 A $32,500 H $51,500

Source: August,'07 Hemmings Muscle Machines price guide.

Just out of curiosity, how much is he asking?

Compared to other similar cars from that period (like Chevelle SS), I don't think Torino has much value today.

as shows like barret jackson auction drive the costs of musclecars even higher into the stratosphere, everything is becoming valuable, because people see cars with $60,000 frame off restos selling for 500,000 bucks and they immediatly think that their old beater thats rusting in the barn is worth the same.

and torinos are starting to get up there price-wise, id jump on this schance if i were you, specialy for that Cobra Jet 428... what is the condidtion of the 2 69's? can you post any pics? if the 69's are alittle rough id sujest buying both and using the worst one as a parts car to revive the other one.

post pics, musclecars are my other specialty, but its hard to give my opinion based on a word description

I looked at both 69's and they re okay, just a bit of rust in the quarter panels, but it's not major. They have been sitting for over 20 years outside. The interiors are all there, just needs work.

a fair price without engines would be no more than $1,000 each in my opinion.

You can probably take the best one and make a $25,000 car out of it (but you'll spend over $50,000).

buy it, just buy it. Those car's are extremly rare, you won't find many. If you don't buy one, I'll take them both.

A good source for replacement FE big blocks, is right down the road from me, Dove manufacturing, you can even get a 427 SOHC from them, all new and have ford id numbers. They have an agreement with ford on reproducing these engines, so a 428 CJ can still be had.

This is a basic but very important part of the $50,000 needed to make a $25,000 car.

What did you find out about the engines?

FWIW, they'd be worth a lot more with the original engines. Knock off a bit of value for having been rebuilt, but still better with a numbers-matching motor.

This is true, but if the motors are missing, you have to fall back and punt. I don't know about the 68 and 69's, but the 70 and 71's are valuable, more so the cobra's, but even the GT's can bring a decent buck.

My uncle has a '71 Torino GT fastback with the original 351C 4V, C-6 auto on the column and I'm not sure on the gears in the rearend. It's green on green with yellow laser stripes. It's all original and unrestored, right down to the Styled Steel rims with trim rings and caps. It only has 105-106K on it. Last summer my cousin pulled it out of the shed it was sitting in for over 25 years and he's working on it now. My grandpa bought it in '73 for him to drive to high school.

Anyways, I'll try and call the guy, but he's out of the house most of the time so he's a bit hard to reach. I really hope he has the motors and hoods for all three.

Should I buy all three or just the '69 Cobra? I have no idea how much he wants for each. Probably 1500 to 2000 bucks, or less, if I'm lucky.

I would buy all 3 if the price is right as they are an investment, for sure the cobra. If in time you don't want to mess with all of them, sell a couple maybe even at a profit to help finance the one your restoring. I would be hogish and want to keep all 3, the more the merrier when it comes to old ford muscle cars.
