I'm in the market for a used Ford F-250 and I'd like some help in answering a few questions. I don't mean to sound stupid but here they are:
1. What does XL and XLT stand for?
2. What is the Ford "Lariat" and how does it differ from other Ford trucks?
3. I saw a 1991 Ford F-250 with a 460 CID and a manual trans with a "D" inside a large square "O" stamped on the gear shift handle. I'm assuming this means "overdrive." Am I right? It's gears are: 1 2 3 4 "D" and R. I'm assuming it is a 5 speed with the fifth being overdrive.
4. Does anyone know what make and model of manual trans would be in that 1991 F-250 (extended cab, 8' bed with 460 CID and dual tanks)? I'm not sure of the model but the truck has "EFI" on the front grill. Does anyone know what the standard gas mileage rating is for that Ford truck?
5. What does "front hook" and "cass" mean? I hear these words used in some ads.
6. Do you know what "front clip" means?
I would appreciate any insights you guys could give me. Thank you.

XL, XLT and Lariat are trim levels. XL is the lowest for most years, and lariat is high end. XLT is in the middle.
The D inside the circle is supposed to mean overdrive, I think.
I'd guess that cass means cassette deck for a stereo,a nd front hook would be front tow hooks.

XL is the base interior.
XLT is the deluxe, and Lariat is the whammy-deluxe-plush squeaky seat & good carpet.
on a stickshift, 5th is an overdrive.
4th is usually 1.33:1 ratio and 5th/OD is .875:1
trans can be identified by a tag on the driver's side near the speed sensor (there were two different ones that I know of)
MPG on a 460 truck? Not very damn much. 12 would be acceptable.
"Front hook" means it has at least one tow hook in front...
"cass" means it has a cassette tape player (can you even buy those anymore?)
both my Lariats have full carpet, but the '88 has cloth seats. The '99 has psuedo-leather
hehe.. ok .. ohh yeah and also vinyl seat... but the shape its in now.. im changin it.. and fixing the vinyl floor.. it had a tough 17 years.. im getting a new vynil floor..
but everything else.. is top end... 4.10 gears LS chrome package 4x4 everything you could imagine in those years of course....
