I pulled out at an intersection on my 2.9L 87 Ranger and the truck acted like it ran out of gas and cut off, although there was plenty of gas in it. After a few minutes I could crank it but I had to hold down the accelerator to the floor just to keep it running. I unplugged plugged back in connectors and vacuum hoses for a few minutes and it cranked up and ran fine. I pulled codes and got a 33 EGR not opening. Could anything other than the EGR valve be causing this code?
This sounds like some sort of fuel delivery problem to me.
I mean if the EGR valve wasn't opening, seems to me it shouldn't cause the engine to stall. Maybe cause it to ping, but not stall. Now if it were stuck open, I could see how it could stall the engine, by severly messing with the air/fuel ratio.
What I'm geting at is, maybe your flogging the accelerator, trying to get the engine going, caused the EGR code to be set.
Have you been having any driveability problems before this happened????
Have you done fuel pessure & deivery rate tests????
I'm thinking maybe acting out fuel pumps or clogged pump screens or fuel filter.
When last was the fuel filter changed.
