i am running a carter 9755 without choke at this point and wonder what is the best choke to run on this. the truck seems to stumble when cold and will not stay running when shifting into gear right after being started. av temp has been 40-50's. also i read about putting stronger springs in the carb to help stumble, could i get some more info on this? any other tricks to the carter carb?
back to choke, for manual to run it would require a 10 dollar part and 5-10 min, for electric i would have to buy the 70 dollar kit and teaqr the carb down and i don't know if i could fabricate a manual on or if carter makes one for it.
I love AFB carbs, they are the best in my opinion.
As with chokes I have never been a fan of electric chokes and pull-off automatic chokes are a crude gimmic.
Manual chokes are excellent as long as you have the dexterity to use one. (pull the choke closed, hit the key, once the engine kicks over push the choke in about halfway, trial and error will net you the details on the start-up routine)
As for your stumble. It sounds like you are looking for snake oil gimmick. When an engine is cold of course it is going to run less than ideal while the engine warms up. With that said 50 degree mornings should not be playing that much of a havoc with your cols starts. If it is you are running waaaaaaay too lean, or not enough advance in your initial timing.
