Total Ignition timing

Total Ignition timing
How do you check the total timing. I am wanting to check the total advace on a 79 400, its got a .524 lift 272dur cam in it, I'm assuming sock compression, and a 625cfm carb on a Holley Street dominator. Right now it runs fine with no pinging but I would just like to check it and does any one know about what it sould be? It has the EGR removed and I have heard that the distributor needs recurved when this is done, can you even recurve a stock distriburtor?

Not sure about your particular specs, but have you tried your specific engine forum?
