Distributor Curving

Has anyone at all on this forum ever had their distributor re-curved professionally? Or does anyone on this forum themselves own a Distributor tester/curver?? I need my dizzy recurved but as I'm sure most of you know, this is quite the dead art as dizzy'less forms of ignition have taken over. There is a guy on this forum by the name of PerfDistibutor or something of that who sells recurved dizzy's but his company cannot recurve other distributors other than their product. To me I would think it would be an easy 50-75 dollars side cash for the company to make but anyways I need my dizzy curved and can't find a soul on earth to do it. Does anyone here have a dizzy curve machine they would like to part with? I would also be interested in one of those as I know some others who could benefit. Thank you!!

I had my 1985 460 distributor re-curved many moons ago by a place here in San Diego called the Dyno Shop, it made a noticable improvement in terms of "it just ran better". I would suggest looking for a shop in your area that has a chassis dynomometer, chances are they have a machine that can do this. If your really desparate, you could ship it out.

What problems are you having with it ? What kind is it ? What all was done to the engine? What fuel do you run ? Recurving a dizzy should be done to your application a lot of things come into play. What works for one truck won't necessarially work for yours.

I had my 84 460 dizzy recurved by Jeff at Reincarnation, he wrote an excellent article on how to recurve a ford duraspark dizzy yourself. Without a machine to spin it on I just had him do it for me. I provided my motor specs, gearing info, how it would be used and he set it up. Made a significant improvement on how it pulls the hills in CO. What I actually paid for was a remanufactured dizzy recurved by him, as in, he provided it and shipped it to me. The web site is listed below for the do it yourself part, or contact him and see what he can do for you, it was well worth it.

Jeff at Reincarnation
http://www.reincarnation-automotive....ons_index.html

The specs mine was set to:
500 = 0
1000 = 3
1500 = 8
2000 = 14
2500 = 20
12 deg @ 18" vacuum
set initial to 14 to 16 deg BTDC

Good luck,
Jeff

Its in a 1973 F100 2wd, 390 rebuilt from a 360 (360 dizzy is what I have), Holley 600 vac sec, crane 34941 cam, stock valve timing, 93 oct (hoping to go to at least 89 when timed correctly), truck is 3500gvw, 2.75 gears behind a C6 3spd auto. I'm def gonna have to get another dizzy now b/c one day it is very likely that i will change my gears again and if so I'd have to recurve the dizzy again and I need a quick way to do that. What kinda dizzy options are out there that are painless at adjusting the curve? I would like to keep this under $300-400 if possible. I'm not looking for a hot shot .55 gap on my plug, just a reliable tuneable dizzy.

Around $400, but probably the easiest to adjust, with great tech support.

Alright guys, theres the guts to my distributor. I found that the dist was setup to run on the 18L which meant 36 total plus the initial which would be way to much if it was set around 10 like it would like it. I took the arms and swapped them and set it to where it now rides on the 13L and then spun the dist 180 degrees to get her back at #1. I'm not sure at all what the G2 and G1 weights mean but at least I've got some knowledge as to what I have. Also noticed the two springs. One is definately shorter than the other. When both are installed, the longer springs doesn't even begin to grab by the time the 13L has maxed out with the smalled, shorter spring. So it looks like someone has been in here before me in the last 34 years...who'da thought. So at this time I'll take any thought/comments as to what springs I should purchase. Can I run with just the one spring right now or will it advance really quickly w/ half the spring like I'm thinking?

You can try it with the one light spring but the curve will probably come in too quickly for your aplication = pinging. The weights you have are stock. I have never seen any aftermarkets offered. I run mine with 2 of the stock light springs. You can certainaly do some experimenting with making the slot longer / shorter.
