hey all, i think im in need of some new hubs for my 99' f-250 super duty. those factory plastic pieces of crap dont lock in anymore, anyone have any suggestions on some decent hubs? has anyone had any trouble with their factory locking hubs? this whole new truck thing is killin me, im used to driving my old fords from the 70's. also, its in some need of a tune up, some guy told me its gonna be the hardest tune up i ever had to do..... any thoughts on that?
thanks for the help, ryan
There are several hubs available aftermarket. Superwinch is the cheapest, usually around 130 available from Summit Racing. Mile Marker is the next step, around $150 and has an all metal body. Personal experience is that it is harder to turn than most b/c it is difficult to get a grip on. They give you a "key" to help turn it though. Then there are two Warn versions, with the Premium being the crem de la croppe. It is usually around $200.
Assuming you have a 5.4, it isn't the worst tune up I've done by any means. Then again, I've done a handful of them. You will need an assortment of extensions and swivels to get to the back plugs, especially on the passenger side. Typically takes me about 1 to 1.5 hours. The unexperience hand can expect it to take 3 hours or so. I don't have any secrets other than go at it. There is a write up on it around here somewhere.
thank you for the help! im in the process now of looking all those hub kits up. and yes it is a 5.4, those back plugs are pretty damn far back there haha. oh well, it'll teach me some more patience
