Kickdown adjustment on carb

How do I adjust this screw properly? It has wiggled loose and is of no effect. If you stomp the throttle it wont kickdown as supposed to.

I would suppose you would get it to react to the carb when you get WOT. Trial/error I would guess? Keep moving it down til it works when you want it.

I'm sure there might be an actual measurement, but not sure who would know that?

Hold the throttle wide open and check to see if you have any play on the kick down rod. If so use the screw to adjust it out (at WOT).

That's not how you adjust a kick down rod.

You bend it to alter the shift change.

That screw is for the solenoid stop

aka: Dash pot

On a carb with a cable instead of the arm that you have.

this is how it's adjusted.

THROTTLE KICKDOWN LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT

1. Move the carburetor throttle linkage to the wide open position.
2.Insert a 0.060 inch; thick spacer between the throttle lever and the kickdown adjusting screw.
3. Rotate the transmission kickdown lever until the lever engages the transmission internal stop. Do not use the kickdown rod to turn the transmission lever.
4.Turn the adjusting screw until it contacts the 0.060 inch; spacer.
5.Remove the spacer.

The above adj is what the book says. My method still works. They just want some extra play so you do not bottom out.

Dashpots only effect closed throttle. My 68 had no solenoid (does have factory air) , to old for high tech device.

They would have added another fuse, 4 is way to many.

That rod certainly has a lot of throw to it. So I WOT and then the rod shouldnt move but a little bit, just to keep it from being bottomed out?

Correct, should be around 1/2 - 1 turn off zero. 0.060 is almost 1/16" if you want to eye ball it.

I held it WOT and the kickdown rod could move toward the firewall another inch or so. I screwed the screw in until the play was out minus 1/16". That put the screw almost totally screwed in.

Was this correct?

just get it to where you can eyeball it and it looks good, then take it for a spin and see how it feels and if need be then adjust it a little more. sometimes with these old trucks thats the best method. thats what i did and my kickdown linkage works like a swiss watch
