If I go with the 6637 should I or could I make some sort of "heat shield" between the motor and the filter? Also is there any worry about the filter getting wet since it is not partially enclosed?
I even have the zoodad mod and water has never gotten to my filter, even in horizontal rain. As far as a heat shield it's not necessary, the under the hood temperature is not a really a factor and is close to ambient temperature, just look at all the others that have done none of us have any kind of heat shield. I guess I don't think a heat shield is really going to accomplish anything. If you’re worried about it not get enough cold air then do the zoodad or doodad mod.
I was thinking kindof a heat shield /holder.It would really more hold the filter in place then protect it from the heat.A wide L shaped bracket that the tube will mount threw and also be mounted to the fender well.I almost have free rain at a metal fab shop that my employer owns so it probably wouldnt be to hard to make from a sheet of diamond plate.
I ordered the filter today and my exhaust should be in monday,I am going to use a piece from it to mount the filter.By the way anyone ever use the ANSA 4" SS exhaust?

Well when you mount the filter in there it isn't going anywhere it barely fits the way it is. I don't really think it's necessary but it's your truck, mod away. Also make sure you get a piece of 4" exhaust pipe it will help it fit better and will make sure the intake tube never falls off the filter.
That should work good.I didnt know about fit.I am waiting on the filter to get here .Yes the exhaust is silverline.I am getting it from ETR.I'll let you know how it fits when it gets here .All this waiting is killing me.
I had the 6637 installed for about a year & decided to spend the $$ for the AIS. I love knowing that my engine is getting good filtration & I don't have to listen to the annoying vacuum cleaner sound anymore on hills. I don't have the fender sleeve & can pull the filter minder a little with no chip. Need to do the fender sleeve, but otherwise, love the AIS.
This must be what I am hearing? Does it make a lot of noise when it shifts gears or if you rev the engine and then let off the gas too? I did the 6637 today with a ton of other mods so I can't really tell what is what for how any of the items performed with sound/functionality. (Except I know the DP kicks A$$!) I too am going to spring for the AIS, just need to gather the cash first.
