I have 96 f150 302, most engine is actually stock, cause of my empty wallet. I'm looking at geting a cold air intake, but the prices range from like $100 to like $700. I am only wanting to spend about $150 on the part itself. I have no Idea where to start. But I want one that makes the nice sound on starting engine...Anyone?
I'd save your money on intake mods until you address the seriously restrictive exhaust system. The intake is already too much for a stock 5.0 truck. You'd be better off saving for a cam swap and/or re-doing your complete exhaust. Long tubes with a custom Y pipe and a single 2.5" exit.
yep, I second, espeically with the MAF on those new trucks
wrap the intake duct with aluminum tape. Most aftermarket "cold air intakes" are not worth the money, unless you want to pay $200 on the sound
None of the commercially available intake kits for our trucks are worth the money. They all utilize hot air from under the hood....You can definitely improve the flow of air to the motor, but addressing the restrictive exhaust and a cam upgrade are necessary prior to noticing any improvement.
If you are hell bent on getting an intake, you're better off building your own. For some ideas, take a look at my gallery. I have some shots of a custom cold air box using sheet aluminum and a 6" diameter K&N.
Address your exhaust prior to messing with the intake........
Don't those trucks already have a cold air intake? The ones that I have seen do. They don't look blingy like the ones in stores do but they have all the functionality associated with cold air intake. As long as you have a clean filter, the stock system works fine, so unless you are going for show quality looks or something along those lines, spend your dough on something else.

The 302 intake that pulls air under the hood is quite lame. An I6 or 7.5L snorkel on the driver's side of the radiator is a noticeable increase over the 5.0/5.8 tubing. This has been covered, and duplicated by many other members here.

You certainly can improve the flow into your MAF sensor from the stock airbox and inlet location. But this will not be accomplished by any kit you purchase. Be prepared to fabricate.

I have a 96' 5.0L and it pulls from right above the driver's side headlight. Is that because it is MA from the factory?

Take a trip to the local pick and pull. Look for the air inlet tubes from 87-96 300 I6, and 460. Shouldn't be more than $10. This plastic plumbing will replace that current setup, and snap together with your system.
She hauls *** and saves gas....18 mpg?Save your money...do a box like his...definately get the 4.9 or 7.5 plumbing it helps and just get a drop in K&N...helped my truck out a ton.course.......I have "modified exhaust"it breathes reeeeeaaaaal easy.

I am sure it has considerably more flow then any aftermarket intake. This custom cowl intake and true dual, X pipe and dual dynomax ultra flo mufflers gives me a lot better flow, something I can notice too. Not so much when I have 33's with stock gears though!
$252.00 For 9 HP and noise. The noise will sound like 25 HP. And you will swear it made a differance because you just spent $252.00. I like the looks of this better than pulling air over bumper for 4x4 purposes. I blew up a 300 I-6 sucking in water. Water gets deep in Poquoson Va.
