Clark transmission

I need some information about a Clark 285V 5 speed overdrive transmission.

I have installed one in my Jeep CJ 7 and I need some details.

Interesting transmission. Should be a bunch of fun with that 6.99:1 super low first gear.

Did you have a specific question regarding it?

Transmission

first of all can you help me identify it? I can email a picture to you of it installed in my Jeep Chassis. My first question was gear ratios, I was told that 5th was OD.

1st = 6.99:1
2nd = 4.09:1
3rd = 2.24:1
4th = 1.46:1
5th = 1.00:1
reverse = 5.89:1

You have to have a 280 VO or 280 VOHD to get the .80:1 overdrive.
Couple of the 300 series clarks have an even lower first gear and a .80:1 overdrive.

Jeeps are light. With a low gear kit in the case, and that super low first gear, you could get away with a reasonable gear set in the axles and still have a fantastic crawl ratio and a reasonable highway ratio.
Should not have any troubles, even if the trans you have is technically not an OD unit.

Wink

Overdrive will hook from 3rd to 4th them it gets pushed up into fifth/OD. I have an OD one with a custom input shaft, the same as 1 ton and down Chevy stuff.
Later willis

I believe that my input shaft is a chevy also. the throw out bearing diameter is like a chevy. Do you know of anyone who sells these? Still not clear on the shift pattern.

Question

Are you trying to bolt it to a Chevy motor?
