Ever Try This?
There used to be several cookbooks on this cooking method. It used to be more popular when cars had manifolds that were flatter and easier to get at. With most modern cars, the manifold is buried down too deep.
I once read a recipe to make a turkey on the manifold. Guess that way you could cook up the bird while on the way to grandmas.

I remember when I was a kid, we'd go camping, towing an old travel trailer with a too-small station wagon. My Mom (Lord rest her soul) would make what she called "hobo hamburgers"...she'd put a hamburger patty, some spuds and some cut up carrots in double-wrapped foil. She'd plan ahead (heck, she was the navigator anyways!) and when we were about 2 hrs. from camp that evening, she'd put four of those packages "in the valley" next to the carb. By the time we got to camp and got sit up, "dinner was served". Always seemed to work better in hilly country!
