ok so winter is coming up and i remember last winter i had problems shifting in the mornings in the cold. i was told that it was a warming up issue that it wound not shift if the temp was not right. was i lied to or should i run the engine a little more to raise the temp. it just will stay at about 3500rpms untill i reach the end of the street then it will shift.

need more info, auto/manual. Which oil if a manual are you running, ATF is preferred for most so check your manual and make sure you have the right stuff. How cold are you talkin about. To have problems as described you are going to have to be fairly well up north. have you cled the system to make sure no air in line if a manual. Just need to post more info.
well I dont have an auto but you should not have a problem at those temps in the area you are in. used to live in lawton Ok with a ranchero with auto and in winter had no problems. When was it last serviced, and the filters etc changed. Like anything else it needs some care so it just could be prev maint related.
yeah its just in the morning when it happens i was told there is a temp sensor to determine when to shift. this was a mechanic who told me this. but most of them in dallas are full of it. but do you think its a possibility?
For better and more acurate info about your transmission take it to a transmission shop. When it stays in the teens & 30's here in Michigan in the winter, no car or truck will work as well as it does when the temp is in the 60's. Even if you don't let your truck warm up a bit before driving, it should still shift when it needs to. You may need to get the trans rebuilt. My "91" Ranger A4LD would drop out of gear or not go into gear when is was first driven after sitting all night. It would do this more often when it was cold as opposed to when it was warm from being driven. I didn't let it go too long after it started acting up like this before I had it rebuilt. It had about 167k on it at the time. A good trans shop should offer a good warranty too. Something like 12 mo/12k mi.
