alright guys, I need help so I don't buy the wrong thing, just got home luckily.
truck ran fine all day, stopped at wal mart, and came out. turn key, and all i get is one click, won't turn over. head lights are ok, tried jumping off my fatherinlaws dodge cummings, nothing. beat on starter wiggled all battery cables conn. nothing glow plug relay clicks ok. finally he pulled me and i popped the clutch to get started. got home and turned off and tried, still one click(starter). batteries or starter.

check the voltage regulator for corrosion. don't know where it is on your truck but mine was pretty close to the p/s battery and the terminals where the plug connects were pretty corroded. made starting an iffy process. cleaned everything up and worked better. maybe this will help.
don't have any corrosion. I am leaning towards the starter, because the click at the starter is strong, and you can hear glow plug drawing current and cycling ok, which sucks a lot of current.
ended up being the positive cable. had a partial open from 2nd battery to starter 200 ohms resistance, 0 when I flexed the cable, guess I got myself a brand new starter for nothing.

hi gbeach..how hard was it to change the starter?
that 3rd bolt looks like a tough spot for me.
I am looking into changing mine maybe.
