starter hit ring gear
My starter used to sound like a piece of sheet metal running through a wood chipper. I changed the flywheel, tranny case and the starter 5 times. It still sounded the same after each time so I finally changed the starter again and now it sounds completely normal. So that means I had five bad starters.
