I have an 03 f-250 with a 6.0 that has 200,000 miles on it I have someone that wants to sell me a 6.0 engine trans and transfer case out of an 06 or 07 would this be a easy swap and would I need the ecm and tcm off the other truck and what else would I need for the swap
I don't know that answer to your question, but I gotta ask. What's wrong with the engine with 200K? Just curious if I am to expect 350K, or if 200K is going to be as far as I'll be going with my engine.
NO, NO!! Call me, I'll BUY the '03 off you!! You'll want the PCM, but everything else should be fine. I'm currently putting a 2004 in my 2006. Don't ask. I'll just say I got stupid at the Drag Strip. Stupid in the neighborhood of 700HP. Was fun while it lasted. I had the '04 as a spare. I could use another running spare so I can build the '04 until I blow it up!
Im not going to swap it out now I was just going to pick it up for a spare just in case anything goes wrong Is the 03 engine better than the 06 or 07 becuase I thought they were basically the same Is the transmissions a direct swap from these years or will I need the TCM Thanks
Actually, I was under the impression that the 05-07 MY's were suppose to be a little more forgiving. But then again, I have heard that when the 6.0 first came out in 03, that they used to REALLY scream. But were detuned for emmissions mandates or maybe it was Ford's longevity/warranty costs, or something.
Somebody set us straight here. Is it the same engine?
the 03's had a different turbo than 04's, but they were rated by international at a lower tq number than the 05's. mine is 04 rated 325/560 yours was 325/570 i believe. i know you've got more emission stuff as far as the ecm since you will get a CEL with egr unplugged, and i dont even get a code on mine.
the 05 had better head stud setup factory than the 04s, but as far any other major differences i'd wait for some of these more knowledgable guys to chime in.
They also changed the HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) in '05 to a better one. Sucks since I blew my '06 and am now putting in an '04. Transmission will be fine. They made some improvements in '05, but they'll bolt up just fine. Matt at Spartan told me that he could build the '04 stronger than the '05 and newer anyway.
