Got mine back. It was $637.00. The mechanic was nice and told me to bring it back it I hear any rattle, but I have already gone 100 miles and haven't. However, my adjustable break pedal don't work now, so I taking it back next week. The switch doesn't light up so I guess the switch didn't get plugged back in.
Well I got the dash COMPLETLY torn apart after 2 days and lots of words. I still cant get the dash out!! Id love to meet the guy who put the heater core in the schematics. What a retard!!
How the heck am I gonna ever get this thing back together. Ive removed about 200 screws now and 50 electrical plugs.
Thanks for all the info on the Heater core , I had the same problem , after reading how much is involved in replacing , I decided to by-pass the heater core. Just cut one of the lines and splice it to the other with a brass 1/2" hose splice and clamps. I live in the desert so I can live with-out heat , this won't work if you live up North but could be a temporary fix for some.

200 Screws???? Major Headache!!! I gotta get mine checked out.. Smell antifreeze but windshield not fogged up..
Ok so I am running into this issue as well in my 99 Expy EB. Same symptoms, smoke/exhaust coming from vents that smells of coolant. Unfortunately, I can't afford to take it to the dealer right now to have the heater core replaced. So I am planning on doing the replacement myself when it gets a bit warmer outside (no garage and live in Central MN). My question is two part; 1. does anyone have any good documentation for doing the heater core replacement yourself and 2. I am thinking about cutting the inlet/outlet lines to the heater core and coupling them together. Also I am seeing 2 sets of houses (left of the engine on the firewall) which set specifically goes to the heater core. Any thoughts regarding this?
If you are going to tackle the job I would recommend subscribing to helm online for 72 hours to get the correct info to do the job. If you are seeing 2 sets of lines it could be because you have rear heat and air. I live in twin cities myself and would not want to work outside now with all the fresh snow.
Same thing just happened to mine! Another thing it started to do is my gauges, lights, instrument panel, and electrical systems are going crazy! RPMs will spike during idle and eventually it will just stall and won't be able to start....dead batter!? I can jump it but it will just do the same thing and eventually stall again?
I'm thinking heater core for yours and mine but any ideas on the crazy dash and electrical system? Is it possible coolant is shorting out the system and causing everything to go crazy?
Hey check on the passenger side there's a tube that goes into ur intake it's right above the last spark plug it's probably leaking an wetting the plugs I just had the same problem with my 99

Watch this video to get an idea what you are in for. Search this topic on this board and you will find a ton of detail on the procedure. If you have the time, patience and are organized this is an inexpensive repair to do properly.
Thanks guys for the information. So if I have 2 heater cores would it be smart to replace both as the repair is a bit labor intensive? Also I was reading and came across an article where someone indicated that a brass/copper aftermarket heater core should be used when replacing. Anyone able to chime in on that?
