That's awesome news!! Way to go.
As far as driving it goes, unless you mean drive it, I would think that after you adjust the rockers and change the oil you should be able to drive it easy right away. Full break in is around 2500 miles or so, so until then, just don't push the engine too hard. After that, stand on it son!!

One rule I've always followed is to change the oil right after you shut it off the first time, 500 miles after that, 1500 miles and then 2500 miles and then every 3000 miles. It may be overkill but clean oil never hurt anything and it's cheap insurance for that investment you just rebuilt.

I meant by driving it like getting on freeway on ramps. I do intend to change the oil at the end of the week after some idling and NICE driving at 45 or so. Should compression raise as I break it in? I tested it after a half hr of break in and another hr of idling. It is a little low..... NO blow by the like it used to have. What should it read at? I miss calculated it really is a 377 not a 383. One decimel is all it took to get me too happy.

My grandpa took his 79 F-150 with a new 351 from Reno to Duluth Minn. and back as a break-in after only having the new engine in for two days. He varied the speed from 55 to 75mph and he never had a problem with it. He was a braver man than I would have been that's for sure.

It only took me 3 weeks before I couldn't resist the urge to pull the cork on my 460 and see what it could do, so I think that should be a good time period to take it easy on your engine.

The harder you drive it, the faster the rings will fully seat. All I'd do is do a highway drive varying speed from 50-70mph every few minutes for about half an hour, then stand on it to seat the rings.

yes ive learned in the past the harder u push the faster it happens. Ive went from 90lbs after the first 25 min run in the driveway. I drove 35-45 miles per hr for 50 miles and im about 120. So i know its going the right way. Last thing I wanna do is mess up my nice aluminum hyperuetectic coated side skirt pistons!
