Hello all, this is my first post so hello.
I pulled my engine this past weekend to do some major cleanup and replace a few things. when i put it back in and fired it up the truck doesnt move. The tranny worked great before i pulled the engine. im thinking that my torque converter isnt seated right, but i dropped the tranny today and made sure that it was in, and mounted up to the engine correctly. still no joy, any suggestions? its a c-4 mounted to a 302 in a 74 f100. and yes my linkage is hooked up correctly. i can shift into neutral, park, drive, etc. thats how i moved it into my garage.
when i got home today i removed the cooler lines and no fluid was being pumped through them. i checked the level in the tranny and it was good. so next question is should i go through the trouble of replacing the pump? or should i just get a new one?
How many miles are on it, when was it ever rebuilt? I had my last C4 rebuilt for $800 a few years back. New pump and the rest was mostly a soft rebuild. If you don't get the TC settled in correctly it will kill the pump quicker than you can say bob's your uncle. If you don't know how good everything else is I wouldn't want to run any old clutch material or whatnot though a new pump.
ive been thinking the same thing for the past few days, decideing if i want to go through the trouble of rebuilding it, or getting it done, or just getting a new one all together. i pulled the pump today and it has some where on the inside shaft, so the clutch packs should probably be replaced. this would be my first tranny rebuild, kinda iffy on it. ill let you guys know what i decide tomorrow.
