can anyone idenify the year of my truck or any other info u can pull from this vin
i know its a 48-50 f6
f6 by badging and 48-50 by grille and body style
Welcome to the club! I bought a '48 F6 this summer.
It's close enough to the cutoff number to be argued, but I'd call it an early 1950. Most of the 49's cut off around 275 or 285,000. Depending on when and where it was sold it might have been titled either year.
Ford used the 9 for both '49 and '50
8R means it had a flathead V8
TH is for an F6 which is rated as a 2 ton truck, 15,500 gvw with either a 134" or 158" wheel base.
Look on the firewall or cowl for a set of stampings - usually on the driver's side, but have been found all over the place. Something like 7RHI2L6025.... gives you color, assembly plant and date assembled as well as vehicle down the line.
Also hope you'll post this vin info on the very top thread for Carl.
thx ill look for that stamp on sat when I remove the cab...
next question its a manual trans which I can find four gears on but the e brake handle is next to the shifter which from every pic I've seen means its a five speed... ps its a flathead v-8 and two speed rear
Nah, the e-brake on the floor was used with F2 thru F8. It connects to a band/drum on the back of the transmission just before the driveshaft. It was used with 3 spds, 4 spds and 5 spds.
The only 5 spds originally came in the F7 and F8's. It's possible you have a synchronized 4 spd but the common tranny was the 4 spd spur gear or 'crash box' trans.
The V8 used in the F1 - F6's was the standard 239 cid flatty and when you're buying parts for it you'll find them listed as 49-53 8BA (car designation) or 8RT (truck). Almost all parts interchange.
Actually this late series flathead V8 was used in 48 trucks thru 53 (54 in Canada)
If it's a stock transmission is will be a four speed. It is most likely the non-synchronized four but could be the optional sychronized transmission. It's easy to tell, the non-synchronized transmission's is over to the right and down while the synchronized is over to the right and up.
