Don't shoot me guys I know what your thinking, "What the hell is this guy doing with dial-up?" Let me explain. I have hight speed internet but I also have a Netscape dail-up software loaded onto my desk top and older laptop. Both are about 5 years old. I decided to keep the netscape dial-up because it can be a back-up when DSL qoes down and I can take it to any phone line. Plus it's only $9.00 a month.
I recently bought a new laptop and found no plug in for the dial-up. Only the larger style DSL connection. My question is how can I connect the older dial-up to my new laptop? Is there an adapter or am I **** out of luck? Thanks for any responses.
Ok guys I'm really green on computer talk. The DSL plug in on my new laptop is slightly larger than the dial up style plug. So if I go to circuit city or compusa do I ask for a pcmcia expansion modem? How expensive is it? Thanks for the quick response gents.
If you list the make and model of your laptop I can look up the specs and tell you if you have a pcmcia expansion slot. Not all have them. If you do then we can identify an appropriate card/s that might suit your purposes.
Just another thought, They do make external 56k modems that plug into a usb port on your computer.
Should be easy enough for non computer people to figure out. Plug one end into the computer, plug the other into the wall, and load the software, simple enough.
Thanks for the input guys. All good info! Asm, I'll look up the model # of my HP as soon as my daughter returns with the laptop from the other side of the island. I'll give the external modem a thought too. Thanks again.
Some computer have the modem and ethernet card in the same plug the phone line just doesn't take up the full width. Post your model number and we can doule check to make sure it doesn't have one before you go and spend money.
