I put a new thermostat in my buddy's exploder after some overheating problems. That seemed to keep it cooler (old one was sticky) but I'm still having some problems. The gauge goes from cold to halfway up the range and back down again repeatedly, almost like I'm seeing the thermostat open and close. I installed a new sender for the gauge but no help. It idled in my drive for 15 minutes then I drove for about 20 minutes in the hills here. After all that I was still able to put my hand on the radiator cap and it didn't feel that warm. Water pump??? Thanks for the help!
Well, you can run the engine with the remote tank cap off and wait till all of the air is out of it. Run the engine with the rpms up and down till the bubbels are all gone.

I prolly should have mentioned this was happening before I replaced the thermostat too. I'll try what you suggested, any ideas if that is not it?
bleed the air out of the system with the rad cap off if not it could posibly be a faulty thermostat and there is also a tsb for the temp gauge fluctuating.
