Tryin to get some decent horses out of a 79 400m engine in my 79 F250 4WD. Trucks gonna be a mudidn truck pretty much. Readin around on the net and from the factory the truck ahs 159 hp at 3800 rpm and 276 ft lbs torque at 2000 rpm. I want atleast 300 hp and 350 ft lbs of torque. I'm goin with new flow tech headers and either running open headers or gettin flowmasters or stacks. Any idea on how to squeeze some power out of this b/c i can't find too many performance parts in jegs or summit
With a 4 barrel, intake, headers, a decent cam, and straight up cam timing 300 horse is possible. There have been many people (myself included) that have used this recipe with great results. The 400 can be made into a great performing engine.
