Identifying Transmissions

It appears the even though my VIN code says I have a T98 in my 62 F-250, I may have something different. What are the key features that I should look for to help me determine what I really have? It is riding behind a 292.

Here's more on the T-98, I thought they looked the same as the T-18 but now I am starting to wonder.

Have you tried the transmission forum?

Thank you all for the links. They helped out a lot. Especially the one that said, "If it has T98 cast into the case, it is a T98. So tonight with a tiny bit of daylight left and new batteries in the flashlight I retrieved a bit more information. The casting on the drivers side of the tranny had this....
T98-1R
G.W.DIV
K-2
So now I have to figure out why some are saying that it won't mount up to the bell housing I have which does not list the T98 as an option to mount to it. Everything looks like it will go together.

Rich, I think you're right. For some reason I thought the T-18 and T-98 were identical on the outside but looks like the T-98 doesn't have the butterfly pattern. Sorry for the bum advice, guess I'll pack it up now....

Barry, no apologies needed. I really appreciate your help. Even if makes me take a closer look. It will help me cement my plans before I tear into the project. I hate having everything torn apart just to find you have an impossible situation.
