I need information and help making a decision. I have a Dell latitude D820. I do not know if I need a docking station or a port replicator. This is what I want to do. I want to use it as my desk computer and plug in netowrk connections, printer, flatscreen monitor, extra keyboard, etc. I do not need to connect extra drives, pc cards or anything like that. When i am reayd to go home at night, I want to be able to just pick it up and place it in the case. not have to unplug a bunch of stuff.
I think I am just in need of a port replicator.....does everyone agree or do I really need to other device? Also does my battery charge through the port replicator if that is indeed what I end up with?
I'd check the DELL website and do a search on Latitude D820. Check the FAQ's for this particular model, and even post this question on their discussion forum site.
All you need is a port replicator.. A docking station has extra slots for additional items.. They both do exactly what you want, but the docking station has the extra slots for adding other drives, Cards, Etc..
Yes the battery will charge when docked.
ALso, you will need a second power adapter. This will allow you to keep one always connected and the other to take with you on the road.
Thank you....thank you very much. Just to clarify you said that I just need a port replicator. You said that the battery will charge when docked....that is the same as "It will charge when placed in the port replicator..
