thinking about a flatbed
after checking out the truck in the marmon thread I want to get a flatbed and put on my truck like the one there... The thing is my truck is a full size. WOuld you recomend shortening my truck to be a shortbed? How would one fo about doing that? Thanks for the help.. Im also looking for a flatbed just like the one in that thread....

the truck in the marmon thread is a long bed also. but the truck in the marmon thread is also a dually. i do not recommend shortening your truck to shortbed lengths. once you do find a flatbed suitable to your liking it will look shorter. the hard part about finding one for your truck though is finding one that is gonna be the right width for a single rear wheel truck.
edit: i looked into putting a custom flatbed on my powerstroke, that is a single rear wheeled truck, and for a completely custom fit to my truck flatbed it would have cost around $3000. but i also have a friend/welder who spent $900 on materials, and in a day and a half had an awesome looking flatbed custom for his truck.

Short flat beds are harder to find and more expensive than long beds. If your original bed is rotten beyond repair then a flat bed is a good idea. Shop around to find the best deal to fit your needs.

ya my bed on my truck is pretty much past repair. OK so I wouldnt need to shorten the frame. Well I would be willing to get a dually rear end and install in my truck. What all rear ends would be suitable?

cut that ******* short with a sawzall. i took about 5 feet off my longbed.. i dont have a bed on it now.. i just chopped it off and moved the spring hangers that much forward.. makes it allot nicer to part.

unless you do alot of heavy hauling you don't need a dually rear. you would have a lot to change. do you have a f150 250 or 350? you could find a truck shop to make you a flat bed or look used at the salvage yards. i bought a parts truck for the flat bed from the local salvage yard, as my bed is shot. paid 250 for the whole truck and he dropped it in my driveway.
