First Real Hwy trip

Well had my first real highway trip since I bought the truck. Got 17.1 which included some city driving when at our destination.

I love the ride, find the brakes a little soft, seems as though you gotta about floor the pedal before you get stopped. Almost had a fender bender on the hwy, traffic was heavy anyway and to make it worse somebody got pulled over by the state boys and of course everybody had to move to the left lane of a 2 lane highway and slow down.
Guy in front of me with a f150 towing a snowmobile trailer with a couple of 4 wheelers decides that he may not be able to stop so he goes for the side of the road so i start braking but im concerned as to whats going on in front of him, that he may lose it in the gravel, and the idiot coming up like a bat out of hell behind me.
Thinking that I may not be able to stop either, I take the center of a 2 lane highway (so im now even with the car that was in front of the f150 taking a little more time to slow down so everybody doesnt pile up behind me) and the idiot who cant stop behind me decides he better take the far right lane (or whats left of it) and drives around me and continues on down the road for about 3 or 4 cars until somebody lets him in.
It was caused basically from everybody trying to get over in the left lane and being unable to merge at the same speed as the traffic in the left lane. Needless to say nobody got in a accident and it worked out.
I hope the moron in the Mustang GT got a ticket, because he about caused a multicar accident..

Geesh...I want 17.1mpg...good job! What engine, etc you have? I seem to get 15 if I am lucky on the Hwy with a tuner and exhaust...but I have bigger tires. Thats averaging 70ish.

07 5.4L CCab/Longbed/4x4. about 3650 on the clock
Running about 75/80 on the way up
Running about 75 on the way back
you dont think that was bad, I thought 18 or 19 was the norm.

I could get 17 on the highway out of my 06 5.4 with the stock tires. With the 285s, I get 15 no matter where and how I drive it.

Just went from upstate NY to Va Beach and back. The average MPG for the 3 tanks of gas was 19.5. A/C on the whole time, 70-80 mph. The truck is an 06 super-cab, 4X4, 5.4, auto, 3.55 rear, stock size tires, tonneau cover. Fresh oil change and air filter (for what its worth). I would never sacrifice perfomance/gas mileage using taller/wider tires.

Just depends on what you want. The stock size tires hardly suit my taste, either. Of course, i don't go outrageous.

I just went on my 1st trip through the Ozark moutains running 80 and I got 15.7 and was pleased for as much down shifting as it was doing. i was running mostly empty, some camping stuff, my wife and our 3 dogs in the cab. I have an 07 5.4, 4x4, rcsb with 2600 on the clock.

Sounds like everyone follows too close, or else there would be no stopping issues.
Anyway running 76mph with an 04 Lariat, 5.4 3:73 LS gears 19.6 hwy with the stock BFG's Longtrails, switched to GY silent armors, 18.6mpg.

mine too

Pretty soon I will be going on a deer chasing trip, should get about 600+ miles on the clock, so will get a good idea what she will do. 17 would be ok, but a buddy says he gets over 20 with his 5.4. So we'll see.
