I was driving through downtown Minneapolis the other night after sunset when the dash computer informed me that I had 50 miles until I was out of fuel.
No sooner than the chime went off the truck went into a regeneration cycle. Due to the increased fuel consumption I was burning 2.5 miles off of that meter for every mile marker I passed.
I would suggest that any after market tuners and even the Ford factory programming not allow a regeneration cycle and/or interrupt one in progress if the 50 mile warning goes off on the dash computer. The decrease in mileage can come back when the tank is full.
That's not a bad idea. I still think there should be a switch to temporally disable the regen cycles for people like me who do a lot of driving in tall dry grass.
i think there should be a switch that permanently removes it
I appreciate the sentiment, but I would like to keep this thread as a positive realistic suggestion for programmers to seriously consider. I think some of the tuners can already remove the regen cycle for those that desire that.
I want it gone! Regen is a joke, kiss you fuel mileage goodbye if she goes into regen. As bad as I hate to say but as soon as I can kill the regen the DPF and DOC are gettin took off. Mileage is ridiculous on this truck when you put 14K punds behind it!
Please don't reply to this thread if all you want is to permanently delete the regen or if you are going to bash it at all. I am not a big fan of it either, but I want a positive single issue thread to suggest a solution to solve one simple problem.
There are plenty of regen bashing threads, go there please.

If you're still seeing active regens while pulling a 14k lb. trailer, something is wrong with your system. You should be seeing mostly passive regen unless you're duty cycle is stop and go.
How many of you use a pyrometer? And if you do, what temp are you trying to keep your EGTs at? One word of advice, while towing, try to keep you EGTs somewhat hotter than you're used to (600-800F) so passive regeneration can take place. You won't damage your engine and the dpf will clean itself without sacrificing your fuel economy.

Well I was pulling alot of hills but was taking it easy because I was still under 1000 miles and wanting her to break in right.
Where did I bash? Last time I checked you didn own this board.....
You fit under the first part about wanting to delete it permanently. Then I followed with the word "or". Asking people not to bash was a pre-emptive maneuver.
I did start the thread though and I can request that anyone who replies keep a certain attitude to MY thread.
