see thats the thing, it doesn't and never has had one, i was just wondering if i would have to beef up the body in the places where it mounts to keep the bolts from pulling through and/or bending/denting the body panels

the post inside the rear of the q/pannel is specally reinfored from the factory. I dont think it would be easy to put one on a bronco that didnt come with one.

looks kinda stupid, it sticks out what appears to be almost a foot from the tail gate, i think ill just try to reinforce the rear q/p and put on one from a junk yard

*****, for 700 you can get a killer bumper/hitch/carrier built up.

<650 as shown.

I agree, if you try to mount that gate to your bronco that never had it before your asking for issues. best is to build a bumper with a swing out carrier on it like what wileec has above.

I removed the tire mount from mine. (sorry, I tossed it) But, inside the gate there was a reinforcment plate that I took off so it wouldnt rattle. I'm sure you could get it off the donor vehical that you get the mount from. The real problem was it also has a reinforcement plate in the corner which I couldnt get out. So I just put some stainless bolts in it. (I filled all the other holes before painting) I dont know what you do for off-roading, but I would not recomend the stock mount if you have oversize tires and do some hard driving. That fancy bumper above looks cool. I think I would make my own somewhat like that.

I wish I had one that is on my get it sometime list.

Found a local guy who is starting a fab shop and wants to use my bronco for building a template for full Size fords. (bumpers, Slides, Roll bars, etc.). Any intrest in CO let me know this guy seemed real serious, I just need to get back to him.

The inside reinforcement might be in there if it is formed into the body from the factory, If you are lucky. I never had my rear panel off it could be something the factory puts into all the bodies then just drills it out for the tire rack, it is cheaper then to make tooling for non spare and spare rack vehicles! A junkyard comparo would tell you.

Yea, that sounds right. I may have not tried to get it out the tail light hole. I cant remember now. I did fill the top holes in the corner, so maybe I got that one out or maybe it was solid (wouldnt rattle). But the bolts are in the bottom because it would have rattled. And I know I took one out of the gate. I put sevral new gates on my old Bronco (rust) and I swaped the plate out each time.

Why not mount a front receiver hitch and mount it on a bar off the front? Thats what I did. I got so sick of it being in my way on the rear.

You will have issues with trying to mount it on the rear. It is a pain.
